🖼️ Diagram Editor

"Design diagrams your way."
Go beyond automatic dependency graphs with a fully integrated editor.

1️⃣ Why Use the Diagram Editor?

While Brainframe can auto-generate dependency visualizations (see Dependency Tracking), sometimes you need full design control.

📌 That’s why Brainframe integrates the open-source tool Draw.io — allowing you to create and edit diagrams directly inside Brainframe.

  • All changes are saved automatically.
  • Versioning works just like any other document.

2️⃣ Creating a New Diagram

  1. Click New and select the Diagram icon.
  2. Enter a title for your diagram.

  1. A new Diagram/Flow chart document is created and opened in the integrated Draw.io editor.

Inside the Draw.io editor, you’ll find:

  1. Diagram document – Stored in the current folder.
  2. Toolbox – Shapes and elements to drag onto the canvas.
  3. Drawing board – Main workspace to design diagrams.
  4. Format panel – Customise elements (size, colour, labels, etc.).
  5. Auto-save – Automatically saves after a few seconds (without creating a new version).
  6. Create new version – Manually save a timestamped version.
  7. Version list – View all saved versions for audit tracking.

📌 Use manual versions to mark milestones in your diagram’s lifecycle.

3️⃣ Adding Diagrams to Existing Documents

You can also attach diagrams to existing files using the folder content action menu.

Example: Adding a process flow diagram to a Word file for context.

Did you know that inside the OnlyOffice editor, Brainframe also integrates Draw.io. This lets you add and maintain diagrams directly inside Word docs — no need to switch tools.

4️⃣ Best Practices

  • 📌 Use Draw.io for process flows and architecture diagrams on top of those generated by auto-dependency graphs for complete architecture view.
  • 💡 Save manual versions at key milestones (e.g., approved diagrams).
  • 🔗 Attach diagrams to relevant documents (e.g., policies, procedures).
