# Document Comments & Activity

# 💬 **Document Comments & Activity**
> **"Keep discussions and history in one place."**
> *Track activity, add comments, and collaborate directly on any document.*

---

## 1️⃣ Activities Tab Overview
Every document in Brainframe has an **Activities tab** where you can:
1. Discuss the document independent of approval stages.
2. View all activity logs related to the document.
3. Rely on automatic updates whenever a change is made.

📌 *This creates a permanent **audit trail** of comments and actions.*

||| Comments are not yet supported in documents that are in the markdown format.

## 2️⃣ Adding a Comment

Navigate to a document and click the **Activities** button in the top-right corner.

Click the **Add Comment** field in the comments section to open the editor.

1. Write remarks or feedback about the document.
2. Tag users with **@username** to notify them by email.
3. Reply to tagged comments—notifications are sent automatically.

| 📌 All comments remain tied to the document for context.

---

## 3️⃣ Additional Actions
From the Activities tab, you can also:
* Create new **tasks**.
* Add **risk readings**.
* Add **KPI readings**.

💡 *The options available depend on the document type.*

---

## 4️⃣ Updating Document Age Tracking
By checking the box **“Mark this document version as reviewed”**, you can see the review status reflected in folder content (if enabled for that type).

## 5️⃣ Adding a comment to a specific text

If you want your comment to be linked to a specific section of the text, you can use the built-in comment features similar to Word's. Select the text you want to add the comment to, and click on the comment menu. This will open a dedicated comment window, where you can add multiple comments and notify the relevant users. You can also remove the comment or mark it as resolved

Texts with comments appear in yellow, and hovering over them shows the comment history.

## 6️⃣ View and reply to comments on a document

Just like when you are adding a new comment, by going to the activities section of a document, you can find all the previous comments on that document.

| 📌 If your documents are in Word format, you can see the comments in our integrated editor, just as you would if you were using word.
---

## 7️⃣ Best Practices
* 📌 Always tag relevant users to speed up responses.
* 💡 Use comments for **collaboration**, not just version notes.
* 🗂️ Check activity logs during audits to prove control effectiveness.
* 🔍 Use **age tracking** to ensure policies and procedures are reviewed regularly.

| Did you know that when you use [Document distributions](https://docs.brainframe.com/en/article/document-distribution-1k2gqwz/) or [Notify external contacts](https://docs.brainframe.com/en/article/send-to-external-contacts-kyxang/), your external contacts can also leave comments on the documents, which you will see in the comments section
