Custom KPI Types
📊 Custom KPI Types
"Tailor performance tracking to your organization."
While Brainframe GRC includes default KPI types such as Unit, Finance, and Percentage, sometimes you need more flexibility.
With Custom KPI Types, administrators can design KPIs with custom formulas, measures, and guidance — ideal for domains like quality management or specialized compliance reporting.
1️⃣ Accessing Custom KPI Settings
Go to Workspace Configuration → KPIs.
- Open the Custom KPI menu in workspace settings.
- View the list of existing custom KPIs.
- Click Add new KPI to create one.
2️⃣ Configuring a Custom KPI
When creating or editing a custom KPI, you can define its calculation logic and guidance:
- Title – Displayed in the Objective Tracker (KPI) menu.
- Methodology – Instructions for how users should take KPI readings.
- Measures – Add one or more measures to be used in the formula.
- Types of measures that can be used for a KPI:
- Range (e.g., 0–5)
- Number
- Yes/No
- Percentage
- Formula Builder – Combine measures with fixed operations. Shows both the builder and resulting formula.
- Calculation – How the different measures from step 4 will be used to calculate the final KPI value. Options include:
- Value → Use exact value provided by user.
- Min → Lowest value across selected measures.
- Max → Highest value across selected measures.
- Add selections into the final formula.
- Use Reset if you want to rebuild the formula from scratch.
- Define mandatory or optional document properties to be filled during each KPI reading (similar to Risk Types).
3️⃣ Best Practices
- 🧮 Keep formulas simple – The easier the calculation, the more reliable the KPI readings will be.
- 📋 Document your methodology – Clear instructions help ensure consistent data entry across teams.
- ⚖️ Balance static and dynamic measures – Use constants sparingly to avoid rigid KPIs.
- 🧑💻 Test new KPIs with sample data before rollout to ensure the formula behaves as expected.
